Thailand affirms its proactive role in the 2025 HigLevel Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations, driving development through data and technology

Thailand participated in the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 (High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development: HLPF 2025) held from July 14-23, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States, under the main theme “Advancing sustainable, inclusive, science- and evidence-based solutions for the 2030 Agenda and its SDGs for leaving no one behind.” The forum conducted in-depth reviews of 5 Sustainable Development Goals: SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 14 (Life Below Water), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals)

On this occasion, Thailand presented its Voluntary National Review (VNR) report to the meeting on July 21, 2025, marking Thailand’s third VNR presentation. The presentation was led by Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Danucha Pichayanan, Secretary-General of the National Economic and Social Development Council, and Assistant Professor Chol Bunnag, Director of the SDG Move Research and Support Center. Thailand’s 2025 VNR report emphasized progress in SDGs implementation at both policy and local levels, particularly the use of data as a policy direction tool through Thailand’s SDGs Dashboard and trend-to-target analysis to identify inequalities and structural gaps, while promoting comprehensive participation from all sectors

Furthermore, NESDC on behalf of Thailand, co-hosted with the Ministry of Economy and Planning of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (MEP) a side event titled “Leveraging Data and Technology to Accelerate SDGs Implementation, Monitoring and Follow-up” on July 23, 2025, at the United Nations Headquarters to provide a platform for exchanging knowledge and best practices in effectively using data and technology to drive SDGs. The event consisted of 3 key segments: Session 1: Scene-setting by Mr. Daniel Eshetie, representative from the United Nations Statistics Division, and Ms. Juliet Braslow, representative from ESCAP, who presented an overview of global and regional trends and data tools for driving SDGs Session 2: Feature Address by Dr. Sabina Alkire, Director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI), who presented via video on the role of data, particularly the Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI), which was reported in the 2025 VNR of 19 countries worldwide to comprehensively reflect poverty and drive policy through data application, and Session 3: Panel Discussion under the topic “Country Experiences in Leveraging Data and Technology to Accelerate SDGs Implementation” featuring Ms. Yara Sindi, representative from Saudi Arabia, Dr. Stefan Bauernfeind, representative from Germany, Mr. Solly Molayi, representative from South Africa, and Dr. Thatchai Keeratipongpaiboon , Director of the Strategy and International Cooperation Coordination Division, NESDC, as Thailand’s representative, sharing experiences and best practices. Thailand’s participation in HLPF 2025 and the organization of this side event clearly reflects Thailand’s role on the international stage as a country committed to driving sustainable development with clear objectives based on data, facts, and cooperation from all sectors. The knowledge and experience from this forum will be brought back and applied to comprehensively enhance SDGs implementation capacity in the Thai context
